Krithika Subramanian Mukund, founder of Natyasthalam Vidyalaya, is a passionate advocate for Bharatanatyam, blending tradition with innovation to inspire a new generation of dancers. Trained under the illustrious Guru Dr. Uma Anand, Krithika’s artistry and pedagogy have earned widespread acclaim since she moved to Dallas in 2014. Her standout achievements include performing at the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Pittsburgh and receiving the Service Award at AsiaFest’s 20th Anniversary for her cultural contributions. Beyond the Indian community, she has captivated diverse audiences, fostering global appreciation for this ancient art form. Under Krithika’s guidance, Natyasthalam students have won multiple State Awards for Choreography, reflecting her commitment to excellence. Meet the Team

Soundari (a.k.a Laya), the daughter and disciple of Krithika Subramanian Mukund, has been passionately immersed in Bharatanatyam since the age of three. Her talent and dedication have earned her widespread recognition and made her a celebrated young artist. A key milestone was her Salangai Poojai at the revered Sri Venkateswara Temple in Pittsburgh, performed alongside her Guru and sister. Soundari, a three-time State Award winner in the National PTA Reflections program for Dance Choreography, received a Certificate of Commendation from the Mayor of Plano in 2023. She has represented the Plano International Festival at prestigious events like the Plano Multicultural Outreach Roundtable and International Women’s Day. In 2024, she was commended by the Mayor of Addison for her performance at the 50th Anniversary of Sogetsu: School of Ikebana. While balancing high school, Soundari has delivered over 100 performances and was featured as a Local Artist Spotlight by Plano Arts & Events. As an Assistant Dance Teacher at Natyasthalam, she plays a key role in training students and enhancing performances with her poise and skill. Outstanding Artist Honors

At the 20th Anniversary of AsiaFest in May 2024, Krithika and Soundari were honored with the prestigious Service Award for their contributions to the arts. Krithika was invited by one of Plano’s oldest recreation centers to create a Bharatanatyam crash course. What began as a challenge became a popular, annual tradition that continues to resonate with participants. Krithika and Natyasthalam gained recognition when then-Mayor Paul Voelker praised their interactive performance at the Richardson Library. Additionally, Natyasthalam was honored three times at the Frisco Freedom Fest as the sole classical dance performers, leading to an invitation from the City of Frisco to showcase Bharatanatyam further. Natyasthalam proudly performed at Dallas' first International Children's Festival in 2019, bringing the art of Bharatanatyam to a global stage. In 2013, Krithika was honored with an invitation to perform at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service’s Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Soundari Mukund (aka) Laya - The lead Bharatanatyam Dancer of Natyasthalam

Soundari a 15 year old, is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. She began dancing at age 3 and has given numerous stage performances, earning praise for her confidence, Anga shudham (body posture), and Adavu shudham (clarity in steps). Her dance choreography has won her State-Level Awards in the National PTA Reflections program, with the Mayor of Plano awarding her a "Certificate of Commendation" for her third consecutive win in April 2023. She has represented the Plano International Festival at various events, including the Plano Multicultural Outreach Round table, Collaborative Arts of Plano (CAP), International Women's Day, and Children's Chorus of Collin County - Holiday Concert. The make-up session is standardized for all classes, focusing on refining posture, facial expressions, and flexibility. Please note, no new steps will be introduced during this session.
  • If the student misses the compensatory class, no further make-up sessions will be offered.
  • A 5–10 minute grace period is allowed for pick-ups. Afterward, a $10 late fee applies, increasing to $35 for delays over 30 minutes.
